The 2013 MLB Season

Because drinking and smoking Cigars is a natural fit with watching a baseball game I thought it would be good to make my predictions for the 2013 MLB Season.

As most of my readers know I am a lifelong New York Yankees fan. I am asked often how someone from the Midwest gets to be a fan of an east coast baseball team. The answer is simple, my Grandpa Elmer.  It was not that Grandpa was a Yankee fan per say, however he was a huge fan of Yogi Berra. He would ride the train from Waterloo Iowa to Chicago when the Yanks were in town to play the Southside Sox’s just to watch Yogi Berra. He often told me stories about how Yogi used to jump around behind the plate and always chatting and annoying the Sox’s hitters.   So now you know…

So now without further “annoying chatter”, here is my 2013 predictions.

National League East
The Washington Nationals – This team has such a great mixture of youth and talent, power and speed it will be hard to imagine them not winning at least 95 games

National League Central
The Milwaukee Brewers – Sorry Cardinal Fans, but you should have signed Kyle Lohse

Nation League West
Los Angeles Dodgers – I doubt there is anyone who is not a Giants fan who is not picking LA to win the NL West. With Magic in charge there seems to be no end to the money it will take to get any player they want.

Wild Cards
San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves

American League East
Toronto Blue Jays -  This team made so many good deals in the off season bolstering their pitching staff by adding the reigning Cy Young Award winner . In addition to their already potent lineup the addition of a great lead-off hitter likes Reyes will put this team in the playoffs.

American League Central
The Detroit Tigers – This team’s offense is a modern day murders row!  How can any pitcher get through the middle of this order unscathed? The Tigers have the 2012 Triple Crown winner batting third, a Prince batting cleanup and arguably the best DH batting fifth.  And I have not even mentioned having the best pitcher in the game.

American League West
The Los Angeles of Anaheim – This team in the last two years have went out and procured the pieces to make a championship run for at least the next five years as long as their pitching holds up.

Wild Cards
The Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles

The World Series will come down to Detroit against the Nationals with the title going to the Tigers (4 games to 2)

Call me out this fall, in the mean time I need to get back to the bar
