Best of 2012

It is hard to believe another year has gone by here at MySideOfThebar. Like every year it was full of ups and downs, but all in all was a great year. With that in mind it is again time for the best of the year according to MySideOfTheBar.

Best Happy Hour Bar – As blogged on previously the pick this year is without a doubt the bar at the Plaza III on the Country Club Plaza in KC.  Both the drink and appetizer specials are excellent and very inexpensive and the service if fantastic.

Best Manhattan – The winner again this year is the Fogo de Chao. Vegas is an excellent mixologist providing classic cocktails with a smile and excellent service.

Best Bartender/Mixologist: Hands down going away it has to be Vegas at the Fogo De Chao.

Best Bar Atmosphere – The Manifesto, Kansas City’s Speak Easy. This is a very cool place and yes you have to be on the list to gain entry.  The door is in the alley and you will not be admitted without being on the list. The bartenders can make any classic cocktail and the relaxing atmosphere puts this bar over the top.

Best Place for a Martini: The Bar in the American Restaurant with both excellent service and Cocktails. The food is also excellent at the American.

Best Whiskey: Not even a close call again this year it was Four Roses. While the Yellow Label continues to be my libation of choice I also enjoy all the other blends they offer from this fine distillery.

Best Surprise Whisky: It was a tie with the awards going to:
Lisemore Single Malt Scotch:  An excellent single malt with a price only around 20.00 USD

Wilet’s Single Barrel Bourbon:

Ok I admit it I only wanted to try this because the bottle was cool, however this is a fine Bourbon with a finish that has a little bite to it.

Best Cigar: Again this year the honor goes to KristoffMaduro Ligero, it does not get much better than that.

Honorable Mention goes to the Alex Bradley Black Market.

Best Tobacco Shop: Fidel’s in Westport, as Tom and his staff offer an excellent atmosphere and are highly knowledgeable in not only Cigars, but all tobacco products and accessories.

Honorable Mention: The Charles P. Stanley Cigar Bar and Lounge in St Louis. (more on this in a future blog)
Best Vodka: As the winner of the blind Vodka Tasting here atMySideOftheBar the only choice  was Firestarter Vodka.

Best Roof Top Bar: This would have to be Randal’s Rooftop bar sitting atop of Kellys Inn in Westport. This is full service Cigar friendly, enclosed and heated in winter and open air in summer bar. Also don’t forget to grab a slice of Joe’s pizza on the lower level.

Best Liquor Store: It was a tie between Hy Vee on 75th and Stateline and Gomer’s  Midtown. The only reason it was a tie is due to Gomer’s shutting me of all people out of the Four Roses tasting event!

Best Bloody Mary Bar: The Rooster in St Louis has one great Bloody Mary Menu

Best Brunch: It was a tie between CoalVines and M & S Grill. Both offer an excellent brunch menu/buffett and have great bars with top of the shelf service.

Here's to a great 2013
