Bourbon, BBQ and Beer

Image
Four Roses The Return of a Whiskey Legend! This was perhaps the single greatest Bourbon day ever! Recently Central Patti and I attended the Bourbon, BBQ and Beer event at the Bluestem here in K.C. (if you follow @mysideofthebar on Twitter you would have seen the tweets on the event) A ticket to the event was $50.00 and included an all you can eat BBQ buffet consisting of four different stations and a multitude of different foods. You also received four drink tickets good for a variety of cocktails, Bourbon or Beer. Our first stop as usually was at the bar to cool off after our walk to the event and I had a Gazpacho Cocktail which was very interesting if not a little refreshing and Central Patti had Bourbon Punch made with Four Roses Bourbon. I was also able to sample the Limited Edition Small Batch and have to say it was one of the most interesting Bourbons I have ever had. Some Back Ground on our Four Roses Discovery Central Patti and I have been the unofficial Four Roses Am

Wobbly Boots BBQ

Seeing that I live in the Mecca of BBQ here in Kansas City I love good BBQ. In other posts I have even named Oklahoma Joe’s as the official BBQ of MySideOftheBar. So why did it take me so long to try one of the Lake of the Ozarks finest? Well logistics is all I can say. I recently spent a lot of time on the “other side of the lake” and one afternoon being hungry I pulled into Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for something to eat. The place was a bar after my own heart being rustic yet clean. The menu at Wobbly Boots is very vast and the smell of smoking meat runs throughout As we ordered our drinks we found we had hit happy hour and that all well drinks were only 3 dollars! That in itself is amazing especially after living in K.C. for a couple of years finding a 3 dollar well is nearly impossible. We both ordered the Smoked Meatloaf which came with sides of green beans with bacon and mashed potatoes covered with homemade gravy that was great. The portions were large and the price was sm

The Woodstock festival opens in Bethel, New York

On this day in 1969, the Woodstock Music Festival opens on a patch of farmland in White Lake, a hamlet in the upstate New York town of Bethel. Promoters John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfield and Michael Lang originally envisioned the festival as a way to raise funds to build a recording studio and rock-and-roll retreat near the town of Woodstock, New York. The longtime artists' colony was already a home base for Bob Dylan and other musicians. Despite their relative inexperience, the young promoters managed to sign a roster of top acts, including the Jefferson Airplane, the Who, the Grateful Dead, Sly and the Family Stone, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival and many more. Plans for the festival were on the verge of foundering, however, after both Woodstock and the nearby town of Wallkill denied permission to hold the event. Dairy farmer Max Yasgur came to the rescue at the last minute, giving the promoters access to his 600 acres of land in Bethel, som

Coconuts

It is not often I find a lake establishment that surprises me as much as the one I was in a few weeks back. Coconuts Caribbean Beach Bar and Grill , located at the 7 MM on the Gravois arm, Coconuts offers a wide variety of amenities that will fit into anyone’s summer vacation outing. Included in the amenities and activities are: A first class Bar and Grill with a great menu of food and drink A Pool with Swim Up Bar Hot Tub Beach Volley Ball A Beach for kids PWC Rentals and more A group of Usual Suspects picked a great day for a outing to Coconuts traversing from the 10 miles on personal water crafts (PWC). It was a great day for a ride as D. and D. G., S. and C. O. and Central Patti and myself left the condo to pick up T. and S M. for a leisurely ride to out destination. Upon arrival we parked on some of the many floating PWC slips and made our way into the Beach Bar. The bar is an open air bar with ample seating and lots of fans in case the weather gets a little warm to
